The Healing Power of God in Lutheran Worship

    A presentation and discussion of how God can and does heal us spiritually, physically, emotionally, and relationally through the different elements of the liturgy and their application. Time will be give to examine various Scriptural examples of how Jesus healed through the worship components of Gathering, Confession and Forgiveness, The Word of God, the Thanksgiving (Eucharist), the Prayers of the People, and the Sending Out (Scattering.)',N'Dr. Wallace Horton is the Minister of Celebration at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield, Virginia. He has served at Prince of Peace for nine years. Prior to that he served at The Falls Church in Falls Church, VA for 11 years and at Bethany Lutheran Church in Long Beach, CA for 20 years. As Minister of Celebration, he is responsible for the oversight and development and their expressions in the worship life of the parish. He develops the liturgies of three distinct weekly services that offer a variety of worship and devotional styles. Part of these expressions include developing an awareness and experience of how God touches people through worship in every part of their lives.

Dr. Horton is a graduate of The Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies. His doctoral thesis and project was on “The Development of an Adult Curriculum on The Healing Power of God in Lutheran Worship.” In addition to his doctoral studies, he has done graduate study at Biola University and Talbot Seminary in La Mirada, CA and has completed the Colloquy Program for the Teaching Ministry of the LCMS at Concordia University in Seward, NB.
